Walk A
To Barrow and Plemstall via Ferma Lane. (7.3 km / 4.5 miles)
Take either the Tile fields Path or Oxen Lane down to the River Gowy. Cross the two bridges and turn left using a permissive path along the riverbank until you reach a fence and ditch. Turn right and follow the fence to a stiled footbridge in the corner of the meadow where you rejoin the public footpath. Over this, keep to the left hand side of the field, through a kissing gate and then carry straight on with the trees on your right. Two more stiles bring you out onto Ferma Lane, Barrow.
From here there are a number of possibilities shown on the map to extend the walk. The route given below is the shortest.
Turn left along Ferma Lane, signposted Plemstall/Little Barrow, and follow this lane which turns sharp left after about 600 metres, then sharp right in another 100 metres. From here the lane meanders until a junction is reached and a signpost indicates a left turn to "Plemstall I mile". Cross the stile and the stream and proceed to a stile on the banks of the River Gowy. Turn right and follow the river, and after another two stiles, cross over the wooden bridge. The footpath now leads across the field to the right of an open-sided barn at Holme Farm, over the stile to a track. Turn right and cross the railway via the two kissing gates. Follow the lane round to St. Peter's Church, Plemstall.
Proceed down the road opposite the church, passing St. Plegmund's Well on the right and the gas installation on the left before entering a field on the left just before a wooden bungalow. At the end of the wooden buildings enter another field, bearing right towards the railway. Go over the stile and under the bridge and onto a path behind the houses which leads into Stile End. Turn left into St. Peter's Way and left again into Station Lane. Pass under the two bridges, and the road leads back to Guilden Sutton.
